5 movie/television homes that’ll leave you speechless
Feature films have the glitz, the glamour, and—most importantly—some incredible houses! So many movies throughout the years have had us drooling over the opulent exteriors our favourite characters reside within. While the likes of Tom Cruise, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are all fine and dandy, the real stars of the silver screen are their decadent dwellings.
The following is a selection of some of our favourites! Just try to make it through this post without feeling jealous….
1. The Notebook’s striking southern home
While The Notebook may be hailed as the greatest romance movie of our time, we were too busy admiring Allie and Noah’s historic 1770’s abode to notice. According to Hooked on Houses, the couple’s dream home is actually the Martin’s Point Plantation on South Carolina’s Wadmalaw Island.
2. Grace and Frankie’s breath-taking beach house
If you’re a Netflix enthusiast (and, let’s be honest: we all are) you’ve probably heard of (if not binge-watched) the comedy Grace and Frankie. While the series boasts seasoned stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, even their megawatt talent can’t outshine the beauty of the 4 bed, 4 bath, 3,896-square-foot Malibu Beach House they live in. The incredibly charming California home comes complete with a pool house and sits right on the ocean beach. Can’t you just hear the waves crashing?
3. The glamorous Scarface hideaway
Though Al Pacino’s character in the 1983 thriller Scarface may not have been a the most morally sound person (understatement of the year), the drug kingpin’s digs are the stuff of legends. This palatial, bright white residence sits on 10 acres of land in Santa Barbara, California. Just look at walkway!
4. Downton Abbey’s Picturesque Palace
This list would not be complete without mentioning Highclere Castle, the dazzling castle the Crawley family is fortunate enough to call home. The Jacobethan style “country house” is perched on a whopping 5,000 acres in Hampshire, England. Highclere Castle is the county seat of the Earl of Carnarvon, but it is frequently opened to the public, which means even us mere mortals can have a taste of what it’s like to live like royals.
5. Twilight’s fit-for-a-vampire oasis
If you are a tween, know a tween, or haven’t been living under a rock for the past decade, you have most definitely heard of (or perhaps indulged in) Stephenie Myers’ vampire romance series, Twilight. Released in 2008, Twilight, the first film adaptation in the series, features the modern contemporary home of Nike Footwear Design Director, John Hoke. Nestled deep in the lush green woods of Portand, Oregon, The Hoke House was completed in 2007, under the direction of architect Jeff Kovel of Skylab Architects.
